Salatiel Souza Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) Hi Guys. My name is Sal. I just met you guys at the MegaCon Dublin 2024 this weekend and had the opportunity to speak with you about the group and get to know what you do. I'd like to be part of and help with the work, but I'm a bit lost now about the next step. I remember I spoke with Sean (I think this was his name. The Empire General cosplay) and he told me there was a meeting to see which costume ideas I could do, etc. Could someone give me a light on it, and also if we have meetings or another channel for communication and news? I'm very excited to start. May the Force be with you all K Edited January 19 by Salatiel Souza 2 Quote SALCAMILO

I'm very excited to start. May the Force be with you all K Hello Sal, Welcome to the forum. I was not at the con this weekend, but it possibly could have been Shane @Dropkick you were speaking to perhaps. As to where to start, you have already taken that step by creating a profile here. I would not know about any costume meetings off the top of my head, but if it was Shane or any other member that was at the Con, I am sure they can shed light on that for you. In reagrds to where to start with a kit, is there any in particular your interested in. If your unsure could start with looking at what era of Star Wars you like most and look at what takes your fancy costume wise. If your stuck and need more help, you can always ask on here as, the group have a wide verity skills and costumes. So help is not to far away and if not. We can always guide and point you in the right direction. Other aspects you can take part in is Crewing. As this is extremely helpful for our TKs and other members with kits the reduce sound and visablity (Mainly those blind TKs). WFor this jump over to the crew rank section on the form to request crew rank access. This way you will see the events and be able to sign up as crew, so the next event you can take part. Outside of the above, any questions just reach out and anyone here will be happy to help. Hopefully will see you sometime at an event. BM 1 Quote Â
SyntaxError Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Hello and welcome Sal! It's always great to have people follow up with us after cons and events. I thought it appropriate to move this thread to Introductions. There are lots of friendly, helpful and slightly crazy members here who can give tips and guidance of how best to move forward. @BandageMonkey has definitely given a couple of good suggestions in terms of crewing and deciding on what type of costume you'd be interested in. In my opinion, there are three main items to consider, each having a different level of importance to each individual; 1) What characters do you like from the Star Wars universe - no point being a TK if you think TK are "meh". The Costume Reference Library (CRL) is a great resource to see whats out there in terms of approvable kits. My only word of warning here is not to read too much into the detail and requirements from the start. Get a feel of what direction you'd like to go in and ask around. Put together a short list of characters you're interested in and even take a look at the detachment forums, which are also listed in the website below. https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:CRLbydetachment Each 501st kit is categorised by detachments; TK are part of the First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment, Scout Troops are part of Pathfinders, etc. There are 100s of different kits which are clearable with the 501st, so have a look around, get a short list together and ask questions.  2) Expense: (DIY versus Commissions) - this point is something only to consider once your close to deciding "this is the kit for me". If you're into DIY, you can reduce the expense by building or 3d printing components yourself, or if you go down the pre-built route, there are different considerations on cost as well as time until the kit is ready. My TK for example took approx 4 months from ordering to completion. In terms of scale considering a Darth Vader Versus a TK for example, there is a massive cost difference (1000s). 3) Comfort: What is comfortable to wear - if you are claustrophobic or dislike having restricted movement, a TK may not be the character for you, but an imperial admiral is a great choice and isn't restrictive given that its a "face character".  Hopefully this makes some sense - before choosing my first kit, I hovered around these forums for at least 6 months, but I'm rather indecisive!  1 Quote Everything a price has, however, isn’t always money, the price is.Â
Dropkick Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Hey Sal, Great to see you here already. Yes, it was myself you spoke to on Sunday. You've taken the 1st step already. Both @BandageMonkey & @SyntaxError have given you great first tips already. Why not come along to the next troop as a crew member in order to get a good feel for yourself to what we do. And never be afraid of asking questions here. There are no silly questions & hopefully someone will be able to answer anything you may ask. tipperaryred Posted January 31 Posted January 31 You are very welcome Sal, and it would be great to have you with us for future events. As mentioned above, just request "Crew" status as Alan suggests and you will be able to see all of our upcoming events Quote Daniel TX/TI-86327 Tipperary
