Hello Barry and welcome to the forums.
Shoretrooper is an excellent choice.
Keep us updated on your build or even start a build thread, we love build threads and may be able to offer you some help or pointers as you progress.
Good luck with your build and may the force be with you, oops I mean 'long live the Empire'

Hi Richard and welcome to the forum.
ESB Boba Fett is a very cool choice of costume!, the best place to begin your quest would be to check out the detachments, they are forums that are our main source of information when building costumes, each detachment pertains to specific costumes, i.e. First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachnent (FISD) is for strormtroopers, Pathfinders for biker scouts and so on.
The detachment you want is 'Bounty Hunters Guild'
This would be your first port of call, hope that helps.Â

Hi Rick,
Great news on your Scout.
If you could send your clearance pictures to gml@501st.ie the lads will look after you, include a front, right side, left side, back and helmet off shoot under good lighting.
We look forward to trooping with you soon too RickÂ

Hello Ryan and welcome to the forum.
You have taken your first step into a larger world
All those costumes you mentioned are fantastic choices, the first thing you need to do is settle on which one you want to do.
You may or may not be aware that some costumes can cost more than others so this may influence your choice, you have definitely come to the right place though as you will get lots of advice and tips from our staff and members.
As per 501st rules we cannot recommend one vendor over another on public areas of our forum but when you choose which costume you want, we can pm you information on what vendor's some of us have used.
Also there are forums within the 501st that deal with specific costumes that are called 'detachments', strormtroopers have 'First imperial Stormtrooper Detachnent' (FISD) bounty hunters have 'The Bounty Hunters Guild and so on, there you will find more detailed information on those costumes aswel as build threads and such.
The main thing to keep on mind is not to rush into buying anything, many vendors claim to '501st approvable' but this is often not the case, always best to ask first to avoid any costly mistakes.
Feel free to send me a pmÂ
Hope this helps

Thanks very much! Does it take a day or so for the viewing rights to kick in?Â
ÂGuess I need to do a bit more reading into different materials - didnât really ever consider ABS vs PVC or know the different until today. Iâll take a look through some of the other threads and see where best to start from.Â
Hmm, should be working now, try logging in and out.
Most kits are ABS, there is little difference in the two, I would recommend ABS, it is available in two thicknesses, 1.5mm and 2mm, both are slightly off-white (same as the screen used armour) the 1.5mm is easier to work with, some members prefer acrylic capped which is bright white, it is slightly more brittle and also more expensive but does look niceÂ

Pm sent, also you should be able to access the sales area now

These arenât the forums Iâm looking for  or maybe they are. I assume these are the ones where I need to be approved prior to getting access a goal at least.Â
Do you mould storm trooper pieces?Â
In terms of what Iâd like to build, Mandalorian / Trooper (Clone, Storm or First Order, Iâm not biased) / Vader - all long term passion projects so not expecting to be done this year or maybe even next - what I intend to do - mix of display and functional for events eventually. - yes, can definitely see theyâre not âcheapâ to do.Â
ÂOn PC builds drop me a message on what youâre looking for - RGB to the top or functional.Â
https://pcpartpicker.comThis website is a great resource and helps solve the few compatibility issues that still exist.Â
Ah right I didn't realise you could not access that area of the forum, I will look check with the webmaster.
No I don't make stormtrooper armour unfortunately but there are few trusted vendors who many of our members have used, I will pm you to point you in the right direction

Thanks very much and will definitely be checking in before I spend on anything reckless
In general, trying to decide what route to go down, would like to hear some opinions; (Iâm looking for a long term hobby on top of passion projects, so thinking long term rather than get it done)
Â
For the trooper set; Buying a 3D printer versus buying the final pieces from reputable sources and painting / finishing myself.Â
ÂFor the mandalorian set - Iâm really taken by the thought of casting this from aluminium - thoughts?Â
Do! When it comes to PC builds, itâs geared far more towards the amateur now with plug and play being the main driver of industry.Â
Edit:
*might be worth moving this from introductions to an appropriate sub forum -Â admins choice*Â
A lot of costumes can depend on budget, you maybe aware at this point that none are cheap!, the only time I have seen ones that can be cheaper would be members selling or changing costumes., bargains can sometimes be had, we have a sales area here where sometimes costumes can be found here:- https://www.irelandlegions.com/forums/index.php?/forum/26-junkyard-for-saletrade/
If you went for something like a 'Original trilogy Stormtrooper' or 'TK' , we can point you in the right direction, we know quite a few reputable vendors that make them in the same way as the originals, vacuum formed abs plastic (ready build or in kit form), Stormtroopers are always a great choice, they get plenty of attention, then again I am slightly biased in this regard
As far as '3d printed costumes vs vac form' I generally lean towards vac if it was available, I put together a 3d print death trooper once and it was an epic amount of sanding, priming, painting etc etc, then there is the practicality of the costumes for wearing at events, vac form is nice and light, this is just my experience though and really depends on what you plan to do with the costume once completed.
For Mandalorians I would check out the detachment for the best info on this:- https://mandalorianmercs.org/ , are you referring to real metal aluminium casting, or using resin and aluminium power to cold cast in resin?, I don't have experience with real metal casting but have some experience with resin casting small props.
I best advice I can give is to go for the costume/s that interests you the most then start a 'build thread', this can be very useful, members will chime in with tips and advice to help.
If you want us to move or split this topic here:-Â https://www.irelandlegions.com/forums/index.php?/forum/19-propscostumes-discussions-questions/Â we can no problem, or just leave it here and start a new thread Â
Â
*Yeah PC's look a lot less intimidating that they used to be to build! lol

Hello and welcome to the forums, myself and few others are based in Wexford so not to far away,
Happy to meet up (when it is safe) if you ever want to have a chat about costumes, the club or just a natter.
Shane and given a great explanation of how costuming works within our club, I will also add that if you plan on putting one together, and see something for sale, it is always a good idea to run it by us first to avoid any costly mistakes, we are a friendly bunch who can give you great advice.
I might even be picking your brain on building a PC as I am currently putting one together for my Daughter, she has been plaguing me for one for a number of weeks nowÂ

As Shane has said we can offer great advice if you need it and point you in the right direction in terms of kits and where to get them
